Keywords: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The password of the university and Oamk students and staff user accounts, as well as temporary UFO user accounts, must be changed at least once a year. You will get a reminder to your e-mail if you have not changed your password during the year. When you are choosing a new password, check out the instruction: Requirements for a good password.

In this instruction, several ways are given how to change or set your password.

A new password must also be set for some mobile device applications.

Option 1: Set, change or reset through our password service

  1. Open our password service: https://account.oulu.fi/passwd.
  2. If you know your current password, choose the option: I remember my old password.
    1. Input your username in its short form, “account24”.
    2. Type in your current password.
    3. Type in your new password twice and then press “Vaihda salasana” / “Change password”.
  3. If you do not know your current password, choose the option: I don’t know my password.
    1. This option requires a Finnish bank account or any of the supported alternatives.
    2. After successfully authenticating yourself through Suomi.fi you will be able to set a new password.
    3. Accept the terms and type in your new password twice and press “Vaihda salasana” / “Change password”.
    4. Confirm the new password.
    5. Press the button “Vaihda salasana / Change password”.
  • Note: Special characters in passwords may cause problems when logging into services that use HAKA login. If your password does not work, for example, in Exam, but you are able to log in to your email with it, the only solution is to change the password again.

Option 2: Change or reset through Self Service Password Reset (SSPR)

  1. Open the Self Service Password Reset through the website https://aka.ms/sspr.
    1. Note! SSPR requires you to have the Authenticator in use for multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  2. In the top most text field enter your username, username@univ.yo.oulu.fi / username@student.oulu.fi / username@oamk.fi / username@students.oamk.fi, and enter the characters seen in the image in the bottom text field, then press Next.
  3. Verify your user through either the Approve a notification on my authenticator app or the Enter a code on my authenticator app options.
  4. Enter a new password and finally press Finish.
  • Note: Special characters in passwords may cause problems when logging into services that use HAKA login. If your password does not work, for example, in Exam, but you are able to log in to your email with it, the only solution is to change the password again.

NOTE: Once you have changed your password, you should wait a few minutes to log in to other services. Remember to update all your devices (phones, tablets, and computers) to use your new password!

NOTE: If for one reason or another you are unable to change or set a password in any of the ways mentioned in this instruction, please contact the Campus ICT support services, contact information.

Setting a password on mobile devices

Some mobile device applications need to enter a new password manually. These include, for example, eduroam and e-mail. If they have an old password, your account will be locked for 10 minutes. Preferably, do the required steps before changing the password, which is indicated above on this page.

Eduroam on Android: Remove the eduroam network from your device’s Wi-Fi settings to avoid problems even before changing the password. Once you have changed your password, go to the app store on your mobile device to install the geteduroam app. In the Wi-Fi settings, enter your user account (account@univ.yo.oulu.fi / account@student.oulu.fi / account@oamk.fi / account@students.oamk.fi) and your new password.

Eduroam on iOS devices: Remove eduroam network from your device’s Wi-Fi settings to avoid problems even before the password change. After changing the password, locate the eduroam network again in Wi-Fi settings and join it. The device reports an unreliable certificate, but accept it anyway. Enter your user account (account@univ.yo.oulu.fi / account@student.oulu.fi / account@oamk.fi / account@students.oamk.fi) and your new password.

Email: Outlook will ask you to log in again after changing your password. A new password must be entered in the settings of other email applications.
