RFID Cards for Printing Must Be Reactivated After 20.5.2024

In the spring, we moved all Oamk M365 accounts to the same M365 environment as the university. At the same time, the login process for printers changed, and you will need to reactivate the card/sticker/tag you use for printers/strong>.

Note that you now use the login in the format username@univ – and that username part is the same as the beginning of the username you use to log in to the M365 service.

Secure Printing means printing confidential documents (e.g., transcripts) on a shared printer without fear of the printout falling into the wrong hands, as printing only starts after you have authenticated yourself at the printer and are there to receive the printout.

You can print to Oamk’s Canon uniFLOW secure print queue from your work computer from any campus when you are on the campus network. You can collect your printout from any multifunction device (shared printer) located in Oamk or the University of Oulu facilities. There are dozens of devices in Linnanmaa and also on other campuses: over 10 in Kontinkangas and one on the Oulainen campus. Students and staff have their own secure print queues. Some devices are only for staff use due to their location. Most devices are shared between students and staff.

Secure Printing Instructions

ICT services automatically add secure printing to Windows computers managed by them on the staff network. Secure printing appears in the workstation’s printer list as secureprint. If this is not the case for some reason, you can manually add the secure print queue to your computer.

If you need help adding the printer, please contact ICT Services.

Secure printing works by first printing the document to the secure print queue and then walking to any secure printing device (copiers). Authenticate yourself at the device either by logging in with your Oamk credentials (in the format username@univ) and its password, or by showing the remote-readable RFID card linked to the printing system to the reader on the device. The device will only give you the printouts after you have verified your identity.

The secure printing instructions for students also apply to staff, with the difference that under normal circumstances, printouts in the staff print queue would be retained (32 hours) and staff printing is not linked to a personal balance, but Oamk is billed separately for staff printouts. (The prices shown in the student instructions are paid by Oamk in the case of staff.) The student secure printing instructions also explain how to print via email and who to contact if you have technical issues with the printers.

Try to Print Less: This will reduce Oamk’s printing costs and also save the environment.

  • Adjust your screen to make it comfortable to read, so you don’t feel the need to print for reading comfort. If you find it difficult to read from the screen, please contact ICT services.
  • When you do print, note that you can reduce the print size if you can read smaller text: instead of printing one page, you can print a spread on one A4.
  • Double-sided prints/copies save paper. Print primarily in black and white.
  • Print in color only when necessary.
  • Oamk students pay for their own learning materials, so do not print study materials for your teaching groups, but give them a file so they can decide whether to read the materials on the screen or pay for the printouts. If you create the material yourself, make it comfortable to read on the screen to avoid the need of printing the file.
