Microsoft 365 Education was also known as Office 365 Education. We use the abbreviations M365 and O365 for it. It is Microsoft’s suite of services that, in addition to email service and OneDrive storage, offers a wide range of tools available to all university students and staff.

Login name and email address
Login name to M365 service is based on the university user account. Access to use the service is valid as long as your university account.
The login name is your Microsoft account (MS account). For the students it is in form account@student.oulu.fi and for the staff account@univ.yo.oulu.fi.
- Use your MS account when signing in any of the university’s M365 services which use MS identification.

As a rule, student’s email address is in the form: firstname.lastname@student.oulu.fi.
- @student.oulu.fi is your primary email address in all study related matters

Email addresses for the staff, researchers and so called UFO accounts are, as a rule, in the form: firstname.lastname@oulu.fi.

Notification “More information required”
University user accounts have a multi-factor authentication (MFA) that protects your MS account from abuse.
If you have not chosen and set up the verification method in your MS account security information, you will receive a notification “More information required” (in Finnish “Lisätietoja tarvitaan“) at the login stage and you will be directed to set your authentication method without delay. Follow the instructions on the screen and set the methods which you’ll use to verify the logins:
- If you are using a smartphone, choose Authenticator app as a method. The other alternatives are text message and phone call.

M365 applications
M365 services can be used by online applications through the web browser and by desktop and mobile applications:
- Microsoft 365 applications (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) have been installed on the workstations maintained by ICT Services. Information: Laptops | Workstations.
- You may install on your own devices, a free set of Microsoft 365 apps which is included in Microsoft agreements of educational institutions in 15 devices for your own use:
- in five different workstations (Windows, Mac),
- five tablets (Windows, iPad, Android) and
- five smartphones (Windows, iPhone, Android).
Download the applications this way:
- For mobile devices, pick up apps from the store of manufacturer.
- For your workstation, download software when you have signed in M365 service. Use Install apps button, which is seen on the same line as the greeting is.

The following information may be required for email applications on mobile and own devices:

Terms of use
The service is an external cloud service provided by Microsoft.
Terms of use by Microsoft Ltd and Terms of cloud service (login with the short user account) are obligating you as well as the university’s E-mail rules.
The use of the service requires certain user information to be transferred to the use of the service provider. This includes the name, username and email address. The user’s password will only be stored on the university’s own servers.
According to the terms of use of the M365 service Microsoft may change the views and contents of the O365 service according to its own politics without informing beforehand. Because of this, small differences may occur in the guidance compared to your own view.
Right to use the service
Access to use the service is valid as long as your university account. M365 service is in use automatically if your university account was created 1st August 2019 or later. If your account is older and you do not yet use the M365 service, contact the Campus ICT support service.
Your access right to M365 services ends no later than when the validity of your university account ends. Your documents and e-mails on Microsoft servers will be removed after 60 days, and it will not be possible to recover them afterwards.
