IT device service concept

Keywords: , , ,

In the university an IT service device concept was introduced in January 2022, under which standardised computers will be acquired as service from now on. The unit using the device pays the purchase price as a service fee over the life circle of the computer.

In this instruction:

What is the service charge consisting of?

The unit acquires the service device from the online web shop of the supplier (Netox) . The service device is paid by the university, which bills it as a monthly service fee from the unit.

The cost of purchasing a computer is divided as a service fee over the entire life cycle of the device, which for laptops is 48 months and 60 months for desktop computers. The service fee also includes the annual fee of the device register and service production costs.

Procurement fees for peripheral devices and accessories are not included in the service fee. They will be paid by the unit.

  • Such are laptop dock, separate monitor, mouse, keyboard, headphones, USB memory and privacy screen.
  • The laptop comes with a backpack, other protective/carrying bags or bags purchased are not included in the service fee.

Service charges are transparent and predictable for the cost pools. For example, at the end of a person’s employment, the service device may be returned and the service charge will cease. The device will be resettled and the unit using the device will take care of the service fee.

Life cycle of the service device

Life cycle and warranty:

  • Laptop: 48 months
  • Desktop: 60 months

ICT Services are responsible for the service device rotation during its life cycle:

  • During it, the device is not replaced than only for compelling reasons.
  • For example, if a person’s employment ends, the device can be returned to the supplier, with the service charge ceasing.
  • A service device is not necessarily always a new device. Returned service devices with remaining life cycle are reinstalled, cleaned, and put back into circulation. However, you will receive a device model you ordered or an equivalent device.

The manufacturer’s warranty is valid for the life cycle:

  • The unit shall bear the cost of repairs not covered by the warranty of the computer.
  • In the event of a breakdown in the middle of the contract period, the unit shall bear the cost of the computer until the end of the contract period.

If necessary, the user can extend the life cycle up to 6 months:

  • The device in the extension period does not have a warranty, so when it is broken, it is replaced with a new one.
