User Instructions and Key Information for Vendor Laptops

Vendor laptops have been transferred to centralized cloud management, and with this change, some of the practices have changed from before.

  • By default, the laptops are now wirelessly connected to the open PanOulu network. You may use the Eduroam or Owlan networks if you wish.
  • When logging in on the laptop, the short form of your user name is sufficient, so you can leave out the @ suffix.
  • The laptops come with Edge browser, Adobe Digital Editions, Thorium Reader and the basic Office package, which contains Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Student laptops also include Safe Exam Browser. When opening the browser, the following tabs open by default: AVD remote desktop, O365, ict.oulu.fi, as well as the AVD remote desktop instructions page.
  • Printing directly from the device is not possible; printing can be done through the AVD remote desktop, where the RPS printer queues are available automatically. You can also use mobile printing.
  • Staff laptops also have the Company Portal service, which you can use to install additional software on the laptop.
  • Software cannot be installed on the student laptops, however there is a collection of software available on the AVD remote desktop.

Note! You are responsible for any files stored on the laptop. User data and files are automatically removed from the device after logging out. We recommend saving your files to OneDrive. Remember to check the status of OneDrive synchronization before logging out.

Sign out and plug the laptop in the power supply when returning it.
