VPN connection (Virtual Private Network) is a solution to reach a private network and its resources over public networks securely. In other words, as a student of Oamk you can reach your home directory at school also from your home, instead of e.g. having to move around your files with USB memory sticks.
While using VPN, a virtual point-to-point connection in established through the use of dedicated connections and encryption; thus any third party intruders shouldn’t be able to intervene the network traffic between you and the school network.
You need VPN to access e.g. Pulmu and some of the library services from outside the campus.
ICT services recommends OpenVPN or FortiClient.
- Open VPN
- works for Windows, Linux and Mac.
- FortiClient
- works for Windows, Linux, Mac, as well as iOS and Android devices.
NB. From Feb 24, 2022 on, you will need your phone every time you open a VPN connection, as multi-factor authentication (MFA) will be required every time, when you open a VPN connection. The same Authenticator app (and the same contact information you have already given for MS 365 MFA) are used for verification also for VPN MFA.
