FileSender – sending of large files

FileSender is a service for sending large files in a secure way. The university uses CSC FileSender service.

  • available for all university users in Finland
  • max. size of the file 300  GB
  • expiry time of file, default 14 days

Shortly: A sender uploads a file to the service and a recipient downloads it into workstation. A sender needs the organisation user account or a guest voucher from one who has got a user account. A recipient does not need a user account or a voucher, she/he will get a personal web link in an email message.

Send your file this way:

1. Open CSC’s Funet FileSender service and log in using your university account.
2. Enter the recipients’ e-mail addresses separated with the comma or with the semi-colon.
3. You can write the subject and the message, these fields are optional.
4. Enter the expiry date.
5. Upload the file.
6. Read the use conditions of the service and accept them.
7. Send the file.
8. Both the sender and the recipient gets the message to the e-mail.
9. Log out.
10. You get the message to your e-mail when the receiver has loaded the file from the service.

To receive a file, send a guest voucher:

You can send a guest voucher which grants access to FileSender to someone who does not have the university’s username, but must send a large file. A guest will receive a personal link to the service by email. The guest can upload file to the service once and send it to you or someone else before the expiry date.

1. Open CSC’s Funet FileSender service and log in using your university account.
2. Click Guests/Kutsu.
3. Enter the recipients’ e-mail addresses separated with the comma or with the semi-colon.
4. You can write the subject and the message, these fields are optional.
5. Enter the expiry date of the voucher, which in the service of the university is max. 7 days and in the service of Funet  max. 14 days.
6. Send the voucher.
7. Both the sender and the recipient gets a message by email. There is a link to the FileSender service in the message.
8. Log out.
9. You will get a downloading link to your email when the guest sends a file either to you or someone else.
