If you are using any Apple products, Android devices or a Windows desktop, laptop or Microsoft Surface Pro, you should use Palo Alto’s Global Protect to create a VPN connection to OUAS network. Global Protect uses IPsec or SSL for protection, depending on the situation.
Desktops and laptops (both Windows and Mac)
- Mac desktop/laptop: use the Global Protect application
- Windows desktop/laptop + MS Surface Pro: use the Global Protect application
Smartphones and tablets:
- Android devices and iPhones/iPads: use the Global Protect application.
- Windows phones and some Window tablets: Unfortunately, the Global Protect application is not available for most mobile Window devices.
- unless you have a Microsoft Surface Pro, when you can think of your tablet as a laptop.

9. In MacOS High Sierra, now you need to separately allow the Palo Alton Global Protect VPN to run. (If you don’t have High Sierra, you’ll move straight to step 10. However, it is a good idea to update the OS!)
You will find the setting from this path:
System preferences -> Security and privacy -> General
10. You have to edit the following settings, give your OUAS username and its password to the appropriate fields. In the Portal-field, you should type pa.oamk.fi
If you check the Remember Me check box, you will not have to give your username and password every time you connect. Then click Apply.

If you are not sure if your computer is running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, you can e.g. follow the guideline at About.com.
3. When you choose the right version you will get a prompt from your browser about saving/running the file. How the prompt looks like, depends on the browser. You may either save the file and then find it and run it (by double clicking the file), or you can run it straight ahead (on most browsers). In the picture below, the Run option is chosen. This choice will install the GlobalProtect package (=a .msi file) immeadiately after the download is finished.
4. Wait until the file is downloaded and then run through the installation wizard using the default settings.
If your GlobalProtect VPN does not open automatically, you can open it from the Start menu: just start writing the name GlobalProtect to search field, and while you are writing, it will sooner or later show in the list. Click the name and a dialogue will open.

When you place the cursor on top of the grey icon, the tootip tells you the status is Not connected.
